Julia Tutwiler Scholarship |
|
|
The scholarship is available to
education majors in good academic standing. The
scholarship amount is $750 per academic school year
(renewable). Application information is available at

|
Daniel Foundation Mathematics &
Science Scholarship |
|
|
Three scholarships will be awarded to
high school graduates from UWA Partnership schools
who wish to become secondary mathematics and science
teachers. Upon receiving Class B certificates,
recipients must teach in Alabama for a minimum of 3
years in the public school system(s) in which the
high school diploma was issued. The scholarship
amount is $40,000 ($10,000 per academic school year-
$5,000 Fall Semester; $5,000 Spring Semester)

Alabama Teacher Recruitment
Incentive Program (A.T.R.I.P.) |
|
|
Freshman scholarships are awarded to
individuals who enroll at Alabama institutions with
approved teacher education programs. All
scholarships are based on four critical areas of
teaching: Math, Special Education, General Science,
and English Language Arts.
Applicants must also have good grades, a financial
need and plan to enroll in college for fall semester
2008. Upon receiving Class B certificates,
recipients must teach in Alabama for a minimum of 4
years. The scholarship amount is $20,000 ($5,000 per
academic school year).
Application deadline: March 31.
Alternative Class A scholarships are
awarded to individuals who enroll at Alabama
institutions with approved teacher education
programs. Recipients must also pursue a secondary
education degree in one of the following critical
needs areas and teach in Alabama. The scholarship
amount is $6,000 ($2,000 per academic school year).

Special Education Scholarship |
|
|
Four scholarships will be awarded to
students pursuing certification in special
education. Applicants must have an overall grade
point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, a financial
need, an official transcript, and submit a letter of
recommendation from an instructor. The scholarship
amount is $4000.

TEACH Grant |
|
|
Through the College Cost Reduction and
Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher
Education Assistance for College and Higher
Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants
of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to
teach in a public or private elementary or secondary
school that serves students from low-income
families. In exchange for receiving a TEACH Grant, a
recipient must agree to serve as a full-time teacher
in a high-need field in a public or private
elementary or secondary school that serves
low-income students. A recipient of a TEACH Grant
must teach for at least four academic years within
eight calendar years of completing the program of
study for which he/she received a TEACH Grant.
